Best Times to Hunt

When is the best time to hunt?  We get this question a lot.  For some species, there are of course seasons. For example, fair chase Whitetail Deer, wild turkey, dove, and bobcat.  For these species, there is no magic time to hunt with the exception of the rut for Whitetail Deer, which usually peaks between our muzzleloader and gun seasons.  Most of the seasons are relatively short so anytime during the season dates are usually just as good as others.  Many of the species we hunt have no seasons.  For example: wild hogs, rams, goats, aoudad, axis deer, fallow deer, sika deer, etc...  For these species, it is a matter of antler season (ie when the deer have antlers), temperature, availability of food, coat conditions (if considering taxidermy), etc.  Of course, most deer have antlers from fall through late winter.  Axis deer can have antlers anytime of the year.  We do most of our hunts from Sept. through June.  We don't generally recommend hunting during July and August due to the high temperatures, but I you don't mind the heat we can accommodate you during these months as well.
